But Why is This So Important?

It's impossible for you to develop personally, without understanding your identity as a man, woman or whatever flavor of gender you embody in this lifetime. In many ways, gender identity and sexuality is perhaps the most important identity factor in any incarnation.

Besides being a human, you are a human female or a human male. Your truthful identity in this lifetime, and feeling good about it, is directly connected to that gender.

Even though biologically and chemically you are only about 51% male and 49% female, or vice versa, as a matter of identity you feel 100% female or 100% male. So, the conundrum is quite deep. Even though we have and almost equal mixture of both masculine and feminine energy within us, we identify almost 100% with only half of that nature.

Modern psychology, Jungian archetypes, describe this as the inner man and inner woman, the anima and animus. We project these unintegrated, subconscious images of our opposite onto the objects of our affection. Something about that opposite feels like it will complete us inside. But it is mixed with a lot of crazed and deranged emotions that are not within our control or conscious field.

Vedic astrology is especially astute at bringing together the aspects of masculine energy, shown by the three masculine planets, and feminine energy, shown by the two feminine planets. When we analyze these forces, as both conscious and integrated forces as well as unconscious and unintegrated forces, a deep karmic and psychological map reveals itself.

Even beyond the gendered planets, we have the neutral planets of mercury and Saturn. They are outside of the spectrum of charged sexuality. Mercury is like the young and playful child, prepubescent. And saturn is like the older mature energy, which has passed through the passions and fires of attraction, etcetera.
